Is the trend of color in our homes back? Many say color drenching (using a single saturated color in a bold way) started at the beginning of this decade, and then double drenching (using two similar colors to cover most surfaces) popped up last year. And you may have noticed, color headlines for 2025 are heralding deep and earthy colors, leading some to call this a new era of color confidence.
But we say, where has everybody been? We’ve known the benefits of color in our interiors for years and are happy advocates of its use. The caveat? It needs to be done right to achieve the best visual and emotional results.
Is someone looking for a soothing or relaxing atmosphere? Grays, whites, and beiges are not the only soothing colors. A pale blue bedroom is soothing, and dark colors can be calming too. It’s all in how they’re used.
Many people are scared of choosing color because it can be tricky to implement. How the room is used, how do you want to feel in it, plus the lighting, a color’s undertones, and balance with complementary colors are just some of the factors to take into account when working with color.
